MEET THE TEAMS- Ramadan Special!
Rukhsana Haleem is City Hearts’ Safeguarding Lead, and is also kept busy in her roles as a magistrate, Rotherham Town Councillor, and chair of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel. She also has three children, and is now toying with the idea of studying for a degree in her spare time!
She says she enjoys observing Ramadan as it allows her to focus on the inner tranquility and peace the month brings.
“Ramadan is such a blessed month,” she said.
“Ramadan teaches us to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate, thus encouraging actions of generosity. I look forward to getting up with my family at sunrise, and eating and praying together at the beginning of the fast, then breaking the fast at sunset. It is a month where we focus on deep contemplation of one’s relationship with Allah (God), extra prayer, intense study of the Quran, and increased charity and generosity.
“We think about those who have less than us, and who need our support.”
Rukhsana has worked for City Hearts in various roles since 2016, but is now the organisation’s Safeguard Lead.
A typical day sees Rukhsana offer support with incidents such as clients with suicidal ideation, FGM, drug or alcohol addiction, and those at risk of being re-trafficked.
Talking about her role she said;
“I enjoy my job as every day is different. Ensuring our clients are protected is our duty of care.”
Ramadan Mubarak to Rukhsana and her family.
