Hi I’m Ed Newton and I’m the proud CEO here at City Hearts, a role I’ve been in since 2017, having started my City Hearts journey back in 2012 as a safe house manager.

A lot has changed over my time here at City Hearts and we as an organisation are growing and developing every day. There are so many things to be positive about here, and I’m particularly looking forward to us continuing to make a difference in people’s lives. It’s imperative we are set up to make that difference in the long term and be that lifeline – and be an empowerer, who enable others to rebuild their lives and see them released into pursuing their hopes and dreams.

What truly motivates me is the desire and belief that we can fully restore a life. That we can identify and fill gaps long before others are able to. The belief that without us there would be fewer pathways and opportunities for those we support – that no person be left without support or someone beside them in their worst moment. This is so important to me because of the loss of my brother in an avalanche in February 2016 and the incredible support we received as a family then. I want City Hearts to be a refuge for people. To help others (clients and staff) realise their dreams, create pathways and develop solutions to identifed gaps.

Hearing words like the below from one of our clients – and knowing someone’s life has been transformed, is why we do what we do:

“That’s when I met my caseworker. I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done for me. If I’m having a bad day he listens, that’s the best thing for me. I know he does everything to support me and it’s because he cares, he cares about his job and about me. He listens and advises any way he can, he is always there, no matter what it is. The best thing I ever did was come into the NRM, I couldn’t have done this on my own. I’m not completely there, but I feel like I am finally learning to be me, learning who I am. My life is now positive, I am happy to wake up every single day. I couldn’t have predicted how my life would change.”

It’s words like that that make each and every of us so proud of City Hearts.

I have to mention our recent fundraising event ‘Sofa to Summit’ too and that I am blown away by peoples’ dedication and generosity. Throughout the event, their time, energy, giving/finance and connecting friends and family to our work makes a real difference – providing practical help, meeting real needs and sending a clear message they are considered, remembered, valued and supported.

Look forward to speaking to you all again soon.

Thank you all so much!
